Find duplicate files.
Files by Google can help you review duplicate files stored on your phone. Keep the file marked Original, and check that your selection contains only the copies you want to remove.
Open the cleanup tools
In Files by Google, open the menu and choose Clean.
Review the copies
Find Duplicate files and tap Select files. Inspect the suggested items before selecting the extras.
Move the extras to Trash
Use Move to Trash and confirm your selection. Keep any photo you are unsure about.
If the card isn’t available, move on to reviewing your photos manually. A cleanup suggestion is a starting point, not a complete assessment of which memories matter.
Similar photos. Different favorites.
Retakes and group shots can look almost the same while capturing different expressions. Compare them before deciding what to keep.
Swipewipe’s Duplicates list groups identical and near-identical photos into piles. Open a pile, keep your favorites and review the photos you have marked for deletion.
- Look beyond the match
- Check the expression, framing and details. Two similar pictures can both be worth keeping.
- Take your time
- If the choice is difficult, keep both for now. You can return to them later.
Review before you confirm.
Deletion depends on the app.
Files by Google uses Trash for the duplicate cleanup described above. Swipewipe removes the selected files from your Android phone permanently after confirmation, without moving them to a trash folder.
Check your backup before deleting anything you cannot lose. A copy already backed up in Google Photos remains separate from the local file removed by Swipewipe.
